First autumn holiday activities in children’s hospital

In order to cheer up children who are spending the autumn holidays in Children’s Clinical University Hospital, the team of Clown Doctors in collaboration with the hospital and children’s dairy products line Rasēns today organised physical activity event “Holiday Festivities in Hospital”. In total, every third one of the toddler patients in the hospital participated in the activities, and received healthy and tasty gifts from Rasēns – flavoured milk cartons and new yogurt for children.

“Being in hospital is not the greatest experience, especially at a time other children are enjoying holidays and the colourful autumn. That is why we decided that we could help the kids have active autumn holidays – even in hospital. We know that fun and games – with doctor’s permission, of course – is good for health and helps get well sooner,” says Marianna Milovska, head of the Dr.Klauns Society.

During the event, children and Clown Doctors participated in various healthy and active games – improvised basketball, hockey and bowling games, hopscotch, and staged a little dance performance.

“For the second year already, children’s flavoured milk brand Rasēns has been urging kids to participate in physical activities. Fun and willingness to try something new are important components in a child’s wish to engage in sports. To that end, Clown Doctors, who bring joy and laughter to the Children’s Hospital every day, are really good partners in the organisation of such ”sports events,” adds Natalja Sidorova, Manager of Food Union brands.

Up until the end of the week, October 31, front and center is the fund-raising drive “Laughter is Good for Your Health”. The objective is to raise money for Clown Doctors’ efforts in children’s hospitals in Riga and the regions. Any person can support the campaign by doing either of the following:

  • Buy one carton of Rasēns, donating 1 eurocent per carton
  • Donate one euro or more at Narvesen shops and get the special Clown Doctor’s nose
  • Call the donations line 90006086 (one call is EUR 1.42)
  • Transfer money from your online bank account to account No. LV43UNLA0050019740644, indicating the Dr. Clown Society (Biedrība Dr.Klauns) as the recipient

Dr.Klauns is a non-governmental charity organisation that has been working in Latvia since 2012. Members of the organisation are professional clown doctors who visit hospitals to offer psychological examination and counseling to make their stay in hospital less stressful. Various techniques are used to achieve this – tricks, music, telling stories to let children’s imagination fly, and much more to make it easier for children to cope with emotions they may experience in hospital – fear, loneliness, depression. The programme is supported by Latvia’s leading dairy company Food Union and Peter Aven’s Charity Foundation Generation in co-operation with Children’s Clinical University Hospital and Israeli Embassy in Riga.
